Brief Review on Alaskan Malamute
One of the oldest arctic sled dogs, the breed name comes from the Eskimo settlement of Malamute. To survive in Alaskan temperatures and pull heavy loads at steady speeds the Alaskan malamute needs to be powerful and heavily boned, but never short on the leg. Weight ranges from 38-56 kg (85-125 lb) and height 58-71 cm (23-28 in).
Affectionate, friendly, loyal and a devoted companion, this is not a 'one-man' dog. This breed has a tendency to show aggression toward other dogs and its size and strength, coupled together, necessitate firm, careful handling. The broad head and obliquely set eyes add to the dignified appearance of this thickly-coated dog, ranging in color from light grey to black or from gold through shades of red to liver, always with certain white markings. The only solid color permissible is all white. |
