Explore all Alpine Dachsbracke Dog
Dating back to the middle of the nineteenth century, the dog was produced as the result of hunters crossing local brakes with Standard Smooth-haired Dachshunds. This is a slow-moving, cold-trail follower, but a highly efficient one, used often to trail a wounded deer so that it is not allowed to die a slow and painful death. This robust, industrious breed is well able to work at high altitude. It is deservedly popular amongst hunters, and also used for rabbit and fox. Longer in leg than a Dachshund, this breed's compact forefeet are rugged. The muzzle and nose are rather large for the overall size of the head, and the round eyes have a lively expression. Height ranges between 34. And 42 cm (13-16.5 in) and the weight is 13-18 kg (33-4(1 lb).The coat is dense and coarse but not wiry, and the color is usually stag red, although some dogs are black and tan or red with black ticking. |
