Brief Description About The Ariegeois dog
AN EXCELLENT WORKING harrier, the Ariegeois was first recognized in 1912 and appears to have been the result of crossing other French breeds, including the Bleu de Gascogne and the Gascon Saintongeois, as well as local briquet hounds. The breed was virtually extinct until a club that promoted it was formed in 19(18. Primarily a hunting-pack hound, the breed hails from Ariege in south-west France and at one time was distinguished from the Petit Bleu de Gascogne only by color.
Used to follow hare and other small game, the breed uses its nose and voice while doing so. The dark eyes are gentle in expression, the long, lean head set off by long, low-set ears. The skin is supple and loose on the body, covered by fine, close hair. Height is 53—62 cm (21—24 in) and weight 25-30 kg (55-66 lb). |
