Information a Beauceron
A French shepherd dog originating in a plains region surrounding Paris, the history of the Beauceron dates back to the sixteenth century. Also known as the Berger de Beauce or as Bas Rouge, meaning Red Stockings, this dog is still best known in the breed's homeland. Only recently has the Beauceron been included on the English Kennel Club's Import Register. The principal qualities of the Beauceron breed are obedience, vigilance, calmness, courage, hardiness and patience, and this is a dog which is always ready for work. Despite a rather foreboding appearance, the breed is of a tolerant nature and is suited to family situations. However, sufficient time must be devoted to proper training and socialization. Standing 63—70 cm (24.5—27.5 in) high and weighing 30—39 kg (66—85 lb), the preferred color is bas rouge which is black and tan. However, 'harlequin', tri-colored grey, black and tan, is also recognized provided that the tan markings are identical to those on the bi-color. |
