British Terriers Dog Information

Other British breeds which are not recognized by the English Kennel Club include the Lucas Terrier created by Sir Jocelyn Lucas, who bred Sealyham bitches and Norfolk terrier dogs together. Longer than it is high with large, gentle looking eyes, this terrier has a hard mouth, but it is an adaptable, friendly dog reputed to be good with children. Height is 25-30 cm (10-12 in) and weight 4.5-6 kg (10-14 lb).

The Patter dale Terrier is found primarily in the Lake District and in Yorkshire where it is used to hunt rat, fox and rabbit and is bred more for its working appearance than its appearance. Height is less than 32 cm (12.5 in) and weight 5-6 kg (12-13 lb). This is a hard-bitten terrier, willing to work and reputed to be quiet both indoors and out.

The Plummer Terrier is a com pact, sprightly little ratter standing some 29-34 cm (11.5-13.5 in) high and weighing in the range of 5.5-7 kg (12- 15 lb). This breed was created by Brian Plummer in the 1980s.

Although the Rat Terrier is not recognized by the AKC, it is best known in the USA. It is a fearless hunter standing 25.5-33 cm (10-13 in) high, with a short, shiny coat. The dog has dark, round eyes, a slightly pointed muzzle and v-shaped cars.
