Briefly Particular the Bullmastiff
The old English Mastiff and also the Bulldog are the breeds behind the Bullmastiff which has been known since 1860 I as a guard dog, one which helped gamekeepers to apprehend poachers. However the breed was not officially recognized by the English Kennel Club until 1924. A powerful, active and high-spirited breed, the Bullmastiff needs firm handling but is amenable to discipline and is very reliable. The short coat is hard and weather resistant and can be any shade of brindle, fawn or red. A black muzzle, however, is essential. Height is 61-68.5 cm (24-27 in) and weight 41-59 kg (90-130 lb) indicating the powerful build and great strength of this breed. The skull is large and square viewed from any angle, and the skull circumference may equal the height of the dog when measured from ground to top of shoulder. |
