The Chow Chow Dogs
In china, this breed's Homeland, the Chow Chow was used both as a guard and for hunting and, regrettably, also as food. It came to Britain towards the end of the eighteenth century. This is a unique breed with a blue-black tongue, black roof to the mouth and short, stilted movement. Leonine in appearance, various different colors are acceptable and there are two coats types - rough and smooth - the former more frequently seen and needing daily grooming.
A compact dog, its height ranges from 46—56 cm (18-22 in) and its weight is usually from 20-32 kg (45-70 lb).The oval eyes should be of medium size and clean, and the ears small, thick and slightly rounded at the tips. Both a quiet companion and a good guard, the Chow Chow is independent and yet loyal, with a tendency to be a 'one-man' dog, although it is rather aloof in temperament. |
