Czechoslovakian Wolf Dog Family
This is a compact, wolf-like breed. Breeding began in 1955 when the German Shepherd Dog was crossed with the Carpathian Timber Wolf, the aim being to improve still further upon the GSD's working ability. Breed recognition was received in 1982, but the Czechoslovak Wolf dog needs extremely firm, patient handling. Some dogs are afraid of strangers. However, the breed develops a close affinity with its handler, although it does not take well to others and is therefore not a suitable breed to use in police work.
This is a lively breed with a memorable howl. The thin, triangular ears stand erect and are highly mobile and, in overall appearance, there are many wolf like characteristics. The topcoat is straight and close and a thick undercoat is always developed in the winter months. Height is 60-75 cm (24-29.5 in) and weight 2()-35kg (44-77 lb). |
