All about the Dobermann
The Dobermann was created in Germany, with the aim of producing a giant terrier that had the aptitude of a guard dog. A satisfactory type of the breed had been bred by 1890 but Otto Cialler helped to improve the breed still further and added Finscher to the name. In Germany, the National Dobermann Club was formed in 1900.
Capable of great speed and needing sensible handling, the Dobermann is intelligent with a firm character, bold, alert and obedient. Standing ideally 65—69 cm (25.5-27 in) high and weighing in the region of 30-40 kg (66-88 lb), this is a medium sized, tough breed, muscular and elegant with a well-set body and proud carriage. The short, thick, close-lying coat is easy to care for and the colors are black, brown, blue or fawn, with rust red markings, sharply defined. |
