Description about Argentino Dogo
Developed in Argentina in the 1920s by Dr Antonio Martinez, this relatively modern breed was selectively created using the blood of old-style Spanish fighting dogs, the Spanish Mastiff, Great Dane, Bulldog, Boxer and an old-style bull terrier. The aim was to produce a breed which would be a fearless hunter of puma and jaguar, but the Dogo Argentino has also been used for wild boar and mountain lion, as it can hunt tirelessly over highly difficult terrain. A dog such as this breed will appeal to those involved in the fighting sports that are still in existence in some countries.
The breed has a fearless and aggressive disposition, which has led to its being banned in some countries, including Britain, although some of its aggressive tendencies seem to be declining in certain strains. This bold, brave and loyal dog certainly needs to be trained by a knowledgeable handler and should be obedience trained. The short, sleek white coat deflects the heat and the ears are surgically adjusted to increase the aggressive appearance. The breed stands 61-69 cm (24-27 in) high, weighs 36-45 kg (80-100 lb) and needs plenty of open spaces for exercise purposes. |
