All about Fila Brasiliero Dog
The massive Fila Brasiliero is descended from early Spanish and Portuguese Mastiffs as well as from Bloodhounds, clearly apparent in the breed's appearance today. It was used for tracking and to hunt large game, although it holds the quarry at bay rather than attacking. In history this breed was used successfully to track Brazilian slaves and now has a variety of working tasks, including herding cattle, guarding flocks and homes, and hunting large cats. Some Portuguese herding dogs and Bulldogs are thought to have been used in the development of this bold breed.
This is an exceedingly loyal breed but it can be aggressive with strangers and unfamiliar dogs, so it is banned in some countries and needs early socialization with other dogs. Weight is 61-76 cm (24-30 in) and weight 41-50 kg (90-110 lb).The short, smooth coat is thick and tight and comes in a variety of brindle and solid colors, but not white or light grey. |
