The French Bulldogs
There has long been some dispute as to the origin of this breed, the French claiming it as one of their old native breeds while in the UK it is believed to be descended from the British Bulldog, bred from some of the smaller specimens which have been produced over time.
A vivacious, deeply affectionate and intelligent breed, whatever the origin, the 'Frenchie', as the breed is fondly known, is a real charmer, full of courage and yet with clown-like qualities. Bat ears and a short undocked tail are essential features. Sturdy, compact and solid with good bone, the French bulldog has a large, square, broad head, though no point is exaggerated. The short, fine and lustrous coat can be brindle, pied or fawn and an ideal weight for dogs is 12.7 kg (28 lb) and for bitches 10.9 kg (24 lb). Height is generally about 30.5—31.5 cm (12 in). |
