The German Spitz Dogs
Although known for many years in a wide variation of sizes, in the UK there are now two recognized sizes of German Spitz, taking the names Klein and Mittel. Klein is the smaller size, measuring 23—29 cm (9-11.5 m) and Mittel from 30-38 cm (12-15 in). In both cases, there is a marked difference of appearance between dogs and bitches. In all respects other than size, the two types are identical and neither has any restrictions on color other than that butterfly pigment is not acceptable In Germany there is also a Giant Spitz of happy disposition, the German Spitz is intelligent, active and alert. Independence and devotion to the family are characteristic of the breed. The double coat has a soft, woolly undercoat and long, harsh, straight topcoat. This is not a trimmed breed and the coat needs care and attention. |
