All about the Havanese
Thought to have developed originally in the Mediterranean regions, sadly the Havanese is now rare in Cuba, which is considered the breed's homeland, and as yet only a few are kept here in Britain. This is a small but sturdy breed, slightly longer than it is high with a profusely feathered tail, which is carried over the back.
The soft, silky coat is wavy or slightly curled and should not be scissored into shape but rather allowed to develop naturally. The coat can be any color or combination of colors; dogs which are brown in shade are allowed to have correspondingly brown pigment on their nose and eye rims, and their eyes can be slightly lighter. Otherwise eyes should be dark and pigment solid black. Height is 23—28 cm (9-11 in) and weight 3-6 kg (7-13 lb). This breed has a friendly, outgoing temperament and is lively, affectionate and intelligent. |
