Top Jack Russell Terrier Details
The Jack Russell terrier is famous worldwide but not recognized by the English Kennel Club, although some countries have given the breed recognition, including Australia. This dog was developed in the south of England in the late nineteenth century as a white terrier, and was used to work fox, both above ground and below. The Reverend John Russell had terriers who bolted foxes from dens so that the hounds they trailed could run, hence the breed's name came into being. This breed is very popular in Britain.
The Jack Russell is an excellent ratter and is \ much a working terrier in the truest sense of the word, alert, confident, feisty and exuberant. The double, weatherproof coat can be broken or smooth but with no strong tendency to curl or wave. In size there is some lack of uniformity, for an accepted size by some authorities is 25-30.5 cm (10—12 in) with weight from 4-7 kg (9-15 lb), while in the USA, for example, dogs under 30.5 (12 in) and over 38 cm (15 in) are disqualified and more nearly resemble the breed recognized in Britain as the Parson Jack Russell, as they are generally longer in the leg. |
