An Review on Mexican Hairless
The Mexican hairless does not yet have an official breed standard in Britain and is therefore not eligible for exhibition. Although the breed first arrived here 12 years ago there are only nine living in the UK. It is anticipated that the Mexican Hairless will be divided into those under 33 cm (13 in) and those over, although in cither countries there are three sizes: Toy, Miniature and Standard and these vary considerably B in size, up to 57 cm (22.5 in) with weight varying between 4 and 14 kg (9 and 31 lb).
Also known as the Xoloitzcuintli and Tepeizeuintli, the breed appears to have remained unchanged for thousands of years, a living link to old pre-Columbian civilizations. Usually a hairless breed, some are born with coats but it is not anticipated that these will be allowed to be shown. Like that of the Chinese Crested Dog, the skin feels hot to the touch. |
