An Review on Pekingese Dogs
With ancestry which can be traced back to China's Tang Dynasty, the Pekingese is a true aristocrat of dignified quality. Somewhat leonine in appearance, the expression is alert and intelligent, the personality fearless and loyal. Although aloof, the breed shows no timidity or aggression but is well able to stand its ground against others when necessary.
The head of the Pekingese is large, proportionately wider than it is deep. Heavy bone and a well built body are essentials of the breed, the weight of which should not exceed 5 kg (11 lb) for dogs and 5.5 kg (12 lb) for bitches. Height is usually from 15—23 cm (6—9 in). Movement is slow with a characteristic dignified, rolling gait and the long coat with its pro-fuse mane and feathering on the ears, legs, tail and toes needs a great deal of care and attention. Black pigment is essential on the nose, lips and eye rims. |
