A Posavac Hound Related Information
Although the history which lies behind all the Balkan hounds is now lost, it would appear that traders brought dogs into the region from Egypt via the Adriatic ports and undoubtedly hunting hounds thrived in the former Yugoslavia. Now categorized as a Croatian breed, the Posavac Hound has adapted to the hilly environment as it is sure-footed with compact, narrow feet, and its tough coat is dense and short.
The dark eyes are alert, portraying the character of this breed which is a lively hound with good scenting abilities, used for hunting small game and also deer. Its gentle nature also makes this a good companion dog. Wide-ranging in height, the Posavac stands from 43-59 cm (17-23 in) and weight ranges from 16-20 kg (35-45 lb). |
