The Rottweiler Dog
Unexcelled as a guard dog and used frequently in police and security work all across Europe, the Rottweiler is one of Germany's foremost and most popular working breeds. Thought to be descended from a combination of Molossus breeds, Roman cattle dogs and the Bullenbeisser, the breed s name is taken from the town of Rottweil in Germany.
The very appearance of the Rottweiler displays the boldness and courage that is inherent in the breed, while the calm gaze should indicate good humor and even temperament. Self-assured and fearless, the breed should be good natured, not nervous, aggressive or vicious. However, this is a courageous breed with natural guarding instincts so it must be trained well and sensibly handled. Compact and powerful in form, height ranges from 58-69 cm (23-27 in) and weight is usually from 41-50 kg (90-110 lb).The black coat has clearly defined tan markings, including a spot over each eye, on the cheeks and around each side of the muzzle. |
