Brief Description the Schnauzer
Of German origin, the Schnauzer appears to have been derived from the black Poodle, wolf-grey Spitz and old German Pinscher, thereby combining working and terrier stock. Known in some countries as the Standard Schnauzer, in Britain the Schnauzer has not achieved the popularity of the Miniature version, but this is an ideal dog for those who are active and prepared to devote time to the coat. Primarily a companion dog, the Schnauzer is strong and vigorous, capable of great endurance. Sturdy of build and robust, the breed has a keen expression and an alert attitude. The harsh, wiry coat, short enough for smartness, can be pure black or pepper and salt, shades ranging from dark iron grey to light grey. The neat, v-shaped ears are high-set and drop forward to the temple. Size averages 45.7-48.3 cm (18-19 in) and weight is usually 14.5-15.5 kg (32-34 lb). |
