Brief Review on Sheepdog
The Croatian sheepdog was developed in northern Croatia from shepherd dogs of that region, the latter having probably descended from dogs from that general region and from Creek and Turkish dogs. Larger than the rather similar Hungarian breed, the Mudi, this dog is fairly commonly found in Croatia's countryside where it is used mainly for flock guarding.
This is a breed which tends not to get on well with other dogs and one which is not ideally suited to urban living. Early socialization is important because the breed is wary of strangers, though it does respond positively to obedience training. Also used in security work, the Croatian Sheepdog can vary in height from 40—51 cm (16-20 in) and weighs 13—16 kg (29-35 lb).The thick, soft, wavy coat is generally 8-13 cm (3-5 in) in length and the color is black, sometimes with white on the feet which are quite small and elongated. The ears are pricked, triangular in shape and carried erect. |
