The Working Group Dogs
For centuries dogs have worked with man, in many cases doing something as simple and instinctive as protecting their own territory. Breeds developed a wide variety of uses and with the passage of time, coupled with the introduction of foreign breeds to this country; the Working Group grew larger and larger in Britain. By 1998 this group comprised over 50 different breeds. In consequence, from January 1999 the group was split, several of its breeds moving into the newly created Pastoral Group. Additionally the Leonberger joined the ranks of the Working breeds from the Utility Group where many thought this large dog had never really belonged. Hence the number of different breeds in this Group has been brought into line with those of others. |
